2015 Fuligni Brunello Riserva: 98 Parker Points And The Best To This Date

Invest in the best Brunello from Fuligni so far at the world's lowest price - a perfect match for your investment portfolio

When it comes to Italian wine, you cannot go wrong with the Brunellos. Wines that, due to their high quality and low price, have become extremely popular among the world's wine lovers. Climbing to the top of this hierarchy, you will find the producer Fuligni, and with their Brunello Riserva, released only in the very best vintages, Brunello simply does not get any greater or better.

Fuligni - A Historical Family

The Fuligni family is an ancient lineage with roots in Venice, and its history can be traced back to the 14th century when the family moved to England and supported the crown and the royal family with various activities. For hundreds of years, the family was involved with royalty and nobility and, as a result of this network, they were granted a large piece of land in Maremma (south-west Tuscany) in 1790, which would become the start of the family's winemaking activity.

It was not until the early 1900s that Giovanni Maria Fuligni moved to Montalcino and began producing wine here, as the family had done for 100 years in Maremma.

Today, Fuligni's estate covers about 100 hectares of fully cultivated land on the western side of Montalcino, where the most authentic production of Brunello historically comes from. However, only 14 of these 100 hectares are cultivated with vines.

Today, Paolo Vagaggini, one of Tuscany's most accomplished Sangiovese experts, tends Fuligni's vineyards and together with Roberto Fuligni, is responsible for Fuligni's great wines.

Fuligni Delivers Exceptional Quality

Fuligni produces a wide range of products, from grappa and olive oil to wine. At the very top of this range is Fuligni's Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, which in the very best vintages is also made as a so-called "riserva" - that is, the best the house can possibly present. The 2015 vintage is the latest riserva to be released by Fuligni, and with extremely strong ratings, this particular wine now stands as the highlight of Fuligni's entire oeuvre, as the best riserva to this day.

The wine critics from Vinous are notorious for being harsh in their ratings of the Italian wines - just as is the case with Burghound and the Burgundy wines.

From this perspective, Vinous's score of 95 points for the 2015 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a strong rating, only further backed up by colleagues from Wine Advocate and James Suckling. Monica Larner of Wine Advocate awards the 2015 vintage a full 98 points, while James Suckling gives it 99 points, moving towards the perfect wine.

Based on the average of the three critics' scores, the 2015 vintage gets a whopping 97.3 points, enough to top the otherwise legendary 2010 vintage (96.7) and claim the title of the greatest riserva to this day - something that will place this wine very high on the wish lists of the world's Brunello lovers.

The 2010 Vintage Was Expensive - And The 2015 Vintage Is Even Better

The future prospects for price increases on the 2015 vintage look quite promising - at least if you look at the 2010 vintage, which is the most comparable riserva from Fuligni. According to wine-searcher.com, the cheapest 2010 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva currently costs €126* per bottle, while average prices are €135 across the offerings currently listed.

What the 2010 vintage was priced at release is hard to say, but it certainly was priced at less than what the 2015 vintage is priced at today - €68. But if we take this scenario, and the fact that Fuligni's riserva is aged five years before release, the price of the 2010 vintage has increased by +85% since release or just over 12% per year on average.

At the same time, it should be remembered that the 2015 vintage has got even better scores and at the same time has a drinking window that lasts for another 30 years. In other words, this offers strong potential.

RareWine Invest’s Opinion

Fuligni is synonymous with the best Brunello di Montalcino, and when we are dealing with Fuligni Riserva, we are really dealing with one of the greatest gems of the area.

Fuligni is known for keeping the yield from the vineyards extremely low to ensure high quality - a quality that in the 2015 vintage culminated in the best Brunello di Montalcino Riserva to this day - and therefore the greatest wine the house has ever presented.

The potential is further confirmed by the price increases of the 2010 vintage, the most comparable vintage, which since its release some 5.5 years ago has seen a price increase of at least 85% or at least 12% on average per year.

Add to this the fact that right now, according to wine-searcher.com, you have the opportunity to invest at the world's lowest price, ensuring the best possible starting point for your investment.

Fuligni's Brunello di Montalcino Riserva also speaks directly to the current trends that are in the wine world, where Italian wines are attracting more and more attention. If the greatest, best, and most exclusive wines will see the greatest price increases, as we saw when the popularity among Burgundy wines really took off, then Fuligni's Riserva is the right place to be exposed.
