Rare Investment Opportunity In Domaine de La Romanée-Conti

For investors and collectors, there is one wine that everyone dreams of. However, having Romanée-Conti in your portfolio is reserved for a few. Invest in a DRC assortment.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti! A further introduction is almost unnecessary when discussing the greatest of the greatest. The legend, the myth, the juggernaut of them all in the world of wine.

It is always with a certain sense of awe that we deal with Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, or simply DRC as they are often referred to.

The Holy Grail Of The Wine World

If we put on our investment goggles, the biggest, most expensive, and most exclusive wines have historically seen the highest returns - and DRC is undoubtedly one of them. But DRC is much more than that - there is simply nothing more extraordinary in the world of wine. Find out more about what makes the DRC the DRC here: Portrait of the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

Invest In An Attractive Assortment

When we can offer investment in Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, it is usually in extremely limited quantities, and this time is no exception. We have acquired two different assortments that we can offer for investment.

Both assortments are based on the critically acclaimed 2020 vintage, which is top-notch, especially in terms of quality. Of course, both assortments only contain Grand Cru wines from Burgundy's best and most famous vineyards, but there are two vineyards that stand out from the crowd in the DRC's almost utopian line-up. These are, of course, the two prestige monopole vineyards, Romanée-Conti and La Tache.

One assortment contains 12 bottles and contains both of the domain's top wines, Romanée-Conti, and La Tache. The other assortment contains 8 bottles and includes La Tache. Both assortments come in original packaging and are currently offered at a price significantly lower than just six months ago, as the wine market in 2023 has been hit by corrections.

Further down in this article, you will find a review of each assortment, but first, a little insight into DRC as an investment.

Investment Case: Romanée-Conti Has No Ceiling

When it comes to DRC, you cannot afford to be critical of bad vintages - because, as a general rule, there are no bad vintages of DRC. It is mainly about the availability of the exquisite drops and whether you can even be lucky enough to acquire a bottle from the world's most famous producer.

That being said, 2020 even received high scores from the world's leading wine critics. This is why the 2020 vintage, in particular, will be notoriously coveted for future generations, and history has shown that there is no limit to how expensive DRC can become over time. A 2001 DRC - Romanée-Conti bottle, which has been on the market for 20 years, has increased more than 1,255% since 2004, emphasizing its long-term potential.

As with any investment, timing is everything, and even DRC has been hit by the corrections that have characterized the wine market in 2023. For investors with DRC in their portfolio, 2023 is just a bump on the road. In the long term, DRC has always been able to stand the distance and deliver stable returns, but price corrections provide extraordinary buying opportunities for the liquid investor, which you can capitalize on in this case, as it is currently 18% cheaper than what similar assortments were traded at just over 7 months ago - and even the collectors who may have traded then should be pleased that they have managed to get their hands on the rare bottles at all - because it will pay off in the long run.

We have previously addressed that the market is currently favorable for buyers and that we are experiencing unique opportunities to get to wines that for years have seemed unattainable - and this case is visible proof of these opportunities.

2020 DRC Assortment - #1

This assortment includes 12 wines from the DRC's famous Grand Cru possessions, including the two monopoles La Tache and Romanée-Conti, the latter of which is perhaps the most highly acclaimed wine in the world.

In 2020, Mother Nature was generous to the winemakers in Burgundy, both in terms of quality and yield. Still, when it comes to the DRC, it is notoriously micro-production, which is also evident from the figures below. On the other hand, there is no shortage of superlatives from the most prominent wine critics, which is clearly evident from the scores below from Burghound (BH), Wine Advocate (WA) and Vinous (VI):

  • La Tache: Only one vintage has surpassed the 2020 vintage with 100 points: the vintage of 1962
  • Richebourg: Only one vintage has exceeded the 2020 vintage with 98 points: the 1934 vintage.
  • Romanée St. Vivant: Except for THREE vintages (2019, 2010, 2005) that scored 97 points, 96 is the highest an RSV has scored.
  • Grands Echezeaux: With the exception of two vintages (1948, 1966) that scored 97 points, 96 is the highest a Grands Echezeaux has scored.
  • Echezeaux: 95 points is the highest score an Echezeaux has ever received. This is also only given to the 2019 and 2020 vintage.
  • Montrachet: 100 points have only been given to Montrachet by Wine Advocate twice: 2020 and 1986 (2020 Montrachet not tasted by Burghound)
