Pierre Girardin declines scores because the wines sell themselves

And in the future, prices will look completely different. Invest while Girardin is still within reach.

"Girardin has hit the ground running with an impressively wide portfolio that includes iconic appellations such as even Montrachet and Chambertin, and he has equally rapidly found eager international representation with top importers."

— William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

We have followed Pierre Vincent Girardin since he presented his very first vintage – and since then, we’ve visited him annually and tasted our way through an impressive portfolio. We described him as a rising star, but today he is widely regarded as one of the big names in the wine world – known and recognized for his elegant and modern interpretations of classic Burgundy.

Pierre Girardin is therefore one of the hottest names in Burgundy. He has access to some of the best vineyards in the region. His wines are produced in extremely small quantities. He breaks norms, follows his own high-quality path, and is rightfully compared to top wines from major established producers.

However, the price level of his wine portfolio doesn’t yet reflect that fact. Our direct allocation with Pierre Girardin gives us access to some of his best wines – and that becomes your advantage. So here, we offer you the opportunity to choose between three carefully curated Girardin 2022 parcels with grand and premier cru wines.

Domaine Pierre Girardin

In 2017, at just 18 years old, Pierre Girardin founded his own domaine in Meursault. Though young in age, Pierre is no newcomer to Burgundy. His father, Vincent Girardin, represents the 12th generation of a winemaking family deeply rooted in the region. In 2011, Vincent chose to sell the majority of the family’s vineyards to pursue new projects – but with one exception: he kept 4.5 hectares in Pommard, Volnay, and Meursault. A kind of open door, should the next generation feel the call. And Pierre did.

With a clear vision and unwavering belief in his ideas, Pierre Girardin stepped out of his father's shadow and forged his own path. He embraced biodynamic practices – just like Leflaive and Leroy – and works with deep respect for his terroirs. The result is wines with a distinct identity and a style that has become characteristic of Girardin. His ambitions are clear, his approach uncompromising, and his wines have already earned their place among Burgundy’s finest.

A Great Talent with the Right Vineyards

"Enjoy Pierre Girardin’s exceptional wines now, while they are still within reach. In the future, prices will look very different."
Rasmus Nielsen, Founder, RareWine

Rasmus uses the word “exceptional” to describe Girardin’s wines. Allen Meadows of Burghound calls them “understated and pure” and also defines Girardin as “a clear talent.”

A talent who, thanks to access to precisely the right vineyards, is able to craft just that: exceptional wine that is – for now – still accessible.

As mentioned, Girardin controls 4.5 hectares in Volnay, Meursault, and Pommard – and has secured long-term contracts with some of the finest growers in Burgundy. This means he has direct access to parcels on – or fruit from – extraordinary vineyards. And make no mistake, Girardin has high standards for the grapes he sources. He requires that his growers share his meticulous winemaking philosophy.

Girardin is therefore able to present a sublime portfolio of wines. With names like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Chambertin, Chevalier-Montrachet, Clos de Vougeot, Meursault Les Perrières, Bâtard-Montrachet, and many, many more. Understated, pure, and exceptional wines – produced in minimal quantities.

Pierre Girardin Breaks with Convention and Declines Scores

We are not the only ones who have followed Pierre Girardin’s development over the past few years — from a budding, confident young talent to a standard-bearer for Burgundy’s new generation. A generation that dares to challenge the norms and experiment.

Firmly rooted in his belief in his own abilities and philosophy, Girardin has made a name for himself — a name that carries an inherent mark of quality, which means he already sells his wines with remarkable ease.

This is despite the fact that Girardin declines scores from major critics, which are usually essential for success on the international wine scene. Girardin believes that his wine is the same, whether it receives 92 or 98 points. Judging by both reputation and demand, his break from convention seems to be paying off handsomely. For the same reason, it appears he can command exactly the price he wants for his wines. Prices have, broadly speaking, doubled over the past five years — largely because prices at the estate rise significantly year by year.

Girardin’s Top Wines: Invest in an Outstanding Burgundy Vintage

Naturally, there are almost no scores for Girardin’s wines, but despite that fact, “he has equally rapidly found eager international representation with top importers.” Simply because he makes sublime wine.

The quality of the 2022 vintage in Burgundy was generally excellent, and the yield was generous compared to surrounding years, during which climate change created serious challenges for Burgundy producers. But even in generous vintages, Girardin’s yields are low — such is the case when biodynamic and organic practices drive wine production.

And here, you have the opportunity to choose between three carefully curated parcels, each representing some of Girardin’s finest.

Parcel 1

Contains 48 bottles at a total price of €7,950
Note: Only one parcel available

12 x 2022 Corton-Charlemagne La Croix
Side by side, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Coche-Dury, Bonneau du Martray, Bouchard, and Pierre Girardin craft magnificent wine from Corton-Charlemagne. When discussing the world’s absolute best white wines, Corton-Charlemagne is simply unavoidable.

Girardin’s Corton-Charlemagne La Croix is made from fruit sourced both from his own holdings and from other parcels.

Price per bottle: €265

18 x 2022 Clos de Vougeot
From the upper part of Clos de Vougeot, Girardin makes wine from vines with an average age of 40 years — and it’s precisely in the upper section, where drainage and soil are best, that you want your vines to be. Clos de Vougeot is one of Burgundy’s most iconic grand cru vineyards. This walled vineyard (clos), around 50 hectares in size, is shared among more than 80 producers, including Domaine Méo-Camuzet, Domaine Anne Gros, and Domaine Louis Jadot.

Price per bottle: €195

18 x 2022 Pommard Les Grands Epenots
Les Grands Epenots is one of the most prestigious premier cru vineyards in Pommard, located just next to the town of Beaune in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. Situated near the border with Volnay, it is often considered — along with its neighbor Petits Epenots — among the best premier cru vineyards in the entire appellation.

Price per bottle: €70

Parcel 2

Contains 36 bottles at a price of €7,260
Note: Only three parcels available

6 x Chambertin Grand Cru
“Le roi des vins” – the king of wines. That’s how the 12.9-hectare Chambertin vineyard is often described. This iconic grand cru site, steeped in history, myth, and uncompromising quality, is home to some of the world’s very best producers. Armand Rousseau and Leroy create magic here — and if you want a 2022 Rousseau Chambertin today, the lowest price on Wine-Searcher.com is €2,276.

Recently, Pierre Girardin has stepped onto the Chambertin scene, rubbing shoulders with the greats — producing sublime wine at a still “low” price point.

To acquire a 2022 Chambertin from Girardin via Wine-Searcher.com, the lowest listed price is currently €765*. Only two full-case offers are currently available.

Price per bottle: €500

18 x Morey-Saint-Denis Monts Luisants Premier Cru
The 8.3-hectare Les Monts Luisants vineyard is renowned for its high quality and is one of the few Premier Cru vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis classified at the 1er Cru level. The name "Monts Luisants" means "the shining hills" — likely a reference to the sun reflecting off the limestone-rich stones on the slope. It’s one of the rare vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis producing both red and white wines at the premier cru level. Girardin and Dujac craft small quantities of Pinot Noir, while both Ponsot and Dujac release Chardonnay and Aligoté from Monts Luisants.

What makes this especially interesting is the vineyard’s location between Clos de la Roche and Clos des Lambrays — though it hasn’t yet received the same attention, the quality is undeniably high.

Price per bottle: €70*

18 x Meursault Perrières Premier Cru
Les Perrières is not just a premier cru — many consider it Meursault’s unofficial grand cru. It possesses a precision and tension that sets it apart from more generous neighboring vineyards like Charmes and Genevrières. Covering 13.7 hectares south of Meursault, it is typically divided into two parts: Les Perrières-Dessus ("upper") and Les Perrières-Dessous ("lower"), where Girardin holds vines. Wines from Les Perrières are consistently sought after and are considered among Meursault’s finest.

Price per bottle: €250

Parcel 3

Contains 42 bottles at a price of €7,860
Note: Only three parcels available

6 x Bâtard-Montrachet
Bâtard-Montrachet is often seen as a “younger brother” to Le Montrachet, yet remains one of Burgundy’s great grand crus, with legendary producers such as Leflaive, Ramonet, and Bachelet working here. Despite living in the shadow of Le Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet still represents some of the finest white wine in the world.

According to Wine-Searcher.com, the world’s lowest current price for a 2022 Girardin Bâtard-Montrachet is €618*.

Price per bottle: €575

18 x Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes
Les Chaumes holds a solid reputation as a classic premier cru in Vosne-Romanée, often considered one of the more approachable and elegant wines from the area. It typically offers a softer, more open style compared to more renowned neighbors like Les Suchots or Les Beaux Monts, making it a popular choice among both wine lovers and professionals.

In Les Chaumes, Girardin works alongside top producers such as Méo-Camuzet, Georges Noëllat, and Arnoux-Lachaux — the latter having also been a rising Burgundy star just half a decade ago. Arnoux-Lachaux’s 2022 Les Chaumes is currently listed at €643 according to the lowest offer on Wine-Searcher.com. In contrast, the lowest price listed for 2022 Girardin Les Chaumes is €180*.

Price per bottle: €145

18 x Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie
La Maltroie is a well-regarded premier cru vineyard in Chassagne-Montrachet, located in the southeastern part of the appellation, near the Puligny-Montrachet border. The name is thought to derive from the Latin martyretum, hinting at historical burial grounds for martyrs in the area. This is a beautiful, white premier cru — simply a stunning white Chassagne, and a fine candidate to bring into your cellar if that’s something you’re considering.

Girardin’s La Maltroie was introduced in 2023 (vintage 2022), following a lease agreement for several parcels in Chassagne-Montrachet, including La Maltroie, from Château de Maltroie. Currently, there is only one offer on Wine-Searcher.com for the 2022 La Maltroie from Girardin, priced at €131*.

Price per bottle: €100

RareWine Invest’s Opinion

There is no doubt that Pierre Girardin has already achieved star status in Burgundy — particularly among his fellow producers, where his reputation is rightfully strong. But we still believe his true breakthrough is yet to come, and it is precisely the degree of that future potential that drives this investment opportunity.

We have followed Pierre Girardin since he established his domaine, and any doubt about whether he would succeed has long vanished. Now, the only question is when his talent will become widely recognized. In Burgundy, it’s already a fact — and it’s already a fact for us.

We do not recommend one parcel over another, and as always, availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
