Start Your Wine Collection With 2021 Solaia
Invest today – enjoy later, or sell for a future return
The 2021 Solaia has secured its place as a historic release, crowned with a flawless 100-point score. Having been on the market for a year, it is now joined by the newly released 2022 vintage which, despite its high ratings, cannot boast perfection.
Interestingly, both vintages were released at the same price. This in no way makes the latest release a poor purchase. It simply means that you now have the opportunity to add a 100-point wine to your collection at an attractive and competitive price.
Only three times in history has Solaia received the coveted 100-point score from the world’s leading critics: 2015, 2016 – and now 2021. While the first two are already trading above release price, you can still secure the 2021 vintage at just €240** per bottle. For comparison, the current average market price on wine-searcher.com is €327**.

Iconic Solaia – Antinori’s Superstar
There are five Italian wines in particular that have achieved iconic status on the international stage. They broke with tradition, challenging the strict rules of Tuscan winemaking. Initially met with skepticism, once their exceptional quality became widely recognized, the original five Super Tuscans gained both cult status and international acclaim.
Masseto, Ornellaia, Tignanello, Sassicaia, and Solaia forever changed the world’s perception of Italian wine.
Marchesi Antinori stands as a beacon of Italian winemaking, with its signature wines Tignanello and Solaia – both grown on the same hillside. They are widely regarded as two of the most influential wines in Italy’s vinous history.
Solaia was first released in 1978, composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. Later, Sangiovese was introduced into the blend. In 2000, the 1997 vintage of Solaia was named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator, making headlines across the wine world and sparking massive interest. Piero Antinori’s success, born of challenging Chianti Classico tradition, became an inspiration for other Italian producers, encouraging experimentation across the region.

The Price of Perfect Solaia After Years on the Market
In simple terms, wine investment is about buying the wines today that you want to drink in the future. The 2021 vintage has only spent a short year on the market and remains youthful, with a drinking window that, according to Vinous, stretches from 2025 to 2050.
Looking at the price development of the 2015 and 2016 vintages – the two other Solaia releases awarded 100 points – which have had five and six more years on the market respectively, the trend is clear:
Since their releases in autumn 2018 and 2019, the average market price for the 2015 and 2016 Solaia on wine-searcher.com has risen by an average of 9.4% per year.
Currently, the lowest listing for 2016 Solaia on wine-searcher.com is €425*, while the lowest price for 2015 stands at €421*.
Your price for the 2021 Solaia is just €240*.

High Demand and Limited Supply
The world’s most prestigious wines are in constant demand, and right now all five Super Tuscans appear on Wine-Searcher’s monthly list of the 100 most sought-after wines. This ranking is based on 650,000 daily searches and tracks demand across more than 800,000 wines.
Solaia is in demand.
When it comes to supply, Solaia’s production remains relatively low – averaging around 55,000 bottles per year. By comparison, Sassicaia produces roughly 180,000 bottles annually, Ornellaia 144,000, and Tignanello as many as 320,000. At the very top end of exclusivity stands Masseto, with only about 30,000 bottles per vintage, making it one of the rarest and most expensive.
Solaia strikes the perfect balance: limited enough to create scarcity, yet substantial enough to sustain broad and lasting demand.
Do you believe the 2021 Solaia, with its 100-point score, will still be highly sought after in five, ten, or fifteen years? A wine everyone will wish they had bought yesterday? And do you believe its price will follow in the footsteps of its perfect predecessors? If so, now is the time to add it to your collection.
