“I am confident that this bottle will improve with time. It requires patience.”
– Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
Monica Larner is a wine critic at The Wine Advocate and can rightfully be called a leading voice in her field. The wine she is referring to is the 2022 Sassicaia. She estimates a drinking window of 2028–2050 and awards it 97+ points.
So, declaring confidence that it will improve with time is a statement worth noting. Better than 97+ points? The 2022 Sassicaia may very well become one of those wines future, impatient wine lovers will regret not buying now.
Aside from its potential for further improvement (which seems almost spoiled for a wine already at 97+ points), Sassicaia already enjoys world fame – and this is your opportunity to secure your position: and at a truly attractive price.

Sassicaia: From Curiosity to World Icon
Tenuta San Guido’s Sassicaia is one of the most defining wines in modern Italian history – a symbol of an entire wine revolution.
The story begins in the 1940s, when Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta settled on his wife Clara’s family estate, Tenuta San Guido, near Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast. Inspired by Bordeaux and convinced that the area’s microclimate and soil were perfect for Cabernet grapes, he planted Cabernet Sauvignon (and later some Cabernet Franc) on the stony slopes – a terroir he called Sassicaia, “the place of stones.”
At first, Sassicaia was merely a private experiment, a wine made for the estate’s own consumption – a private curiosity. But in the late 1960s everything changed, when Sassicaia was released commercially. Despite breaking with Italian winemaking norms, the 1972 Sassicaia won a blind tasting in London in 1978, surpassing even top Bordeaux wines.
Sassicaia became the prototype and inspiration for what would later be known as Super Tuscans – wines that deliberately broke Italian wine laws to create uncompromising quality.
Sassicaia is therefore much more than a wine. It is a symbol of ambition, innovation, and international relevance. With Sassicaia, Italy proved that Italian wine could match – and even surpass – the world’s most prestigious wines.
The 1985 Sassicaia was the first Italian wine ever to receive 100 points, and when the 2015 Sassicaia was named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator in 2018, there was no longer any doubt that Sassicaia is a global icon.

Inherent Demand for Sassicaia?
We can easily claim that any Sassicaia release comes with international demand and corresponding hype – regardless of the scores. That’s obvious to us, as the wine industry is our everyday life. But you don’t have to go far down the Wine-Searcher (the world’s leading platform for comparing wine and spirits prices) monthly “Top 100 Most Searched-for Wines” list to find Sassicaia sitting in eighth place this month.
And that’s a position determined by more than 650,000 daily searches across more than 800,000 different wines.
Eighth place (!!!) turns claim into fact.
Why 2022 Sassicaia
The 2022 Sassicaia is Tenuta San Guido’s latest release, and it has received excellent reviews from the world’s leading critics. 94 points from Vinous, 97+ points from Wine Advocate and 98 points from James Suckling.
And although it may not be the estate’s absolute top vintage, it still demonstrates the high level of quality that has made Sassicaia so renowned and sought-after.
In terms of quality, the 2022 Sassicaia compares closely to the 2006, 2008, and 2015 vintages. The lowest current offer for 2006 Sassicaia on Wine-Searcher.com is €278*, €256* for 2008 Sassicaia, and €225* for 2015 Sassicaia.
Prices therefore appear to rise the longer a vintage has been on the market. And your price for the 2022 Sassicaia is €180*. The lowest price on Wine-Searcher.com is €189*.
*Price excludes customs, VAT, and duties. Available in full cases and perfect condition.
RareWine Invest’s Opinion
The 2022 Sassicaia is simply a beautiful and highly acclaimed wine. But the Sassicaia brand transcends quality — it has become synonymous with uncompromising standards, wine revolution, and prestige. We would argue that every wine lover knows what Sassicaia is.
And there are always buyers willing to pay for mature wines with the status of a world icon.
The 2022 Sassicaia is still very young — a product that will only improve with age, becoming rarer and more desirable over time. In other words: if you want to buy young Sassicaia today, you’ll be the one offering future wine lovers perfectly stored, mature Sassicaia tomorrow.
