Would you like to position yourself in one of the world’s most sought-after wines – at a time when the market is showing signs of turning?
“Masseto has gone on to become one of the most highly sought-after wines in the world.”
– Antonio Galloni
Masseto is a bucket-list wine for any collector.
And every time we offer it for investment, it – understandably – sells out quickly, regardless of vintage.
That is, of course, because Masseto is world-famous, limited, and extremely sought after. We have assembled a small parcel of 2007 Masseto for investment in various formats. The price has been slightly reduced, while Liv-ex is tracking signs of market improvement.
You know Masseto: One of the world’s most sought-after wines
In Italy, two uncrowned kings reign. In Barolo, it is Monfortino; in Tuscany, Masseto rules. Side by side, they represent the very best, most exclusive, and most expensive Italy has to offer.
Masseto’s story began in the 1980s on a clay-rich slope in Bolgheri. The vineyard was compact, unusual, and not suited to classic grape varieties—and that became Masseto’s strength. When the first vintage was created in 1986, it was still an experiment. Betting on pure Merlot in Tuscany was unusual, almost daring, but gradually Masseto began to attract attention and became a benchmark for what Merlot can express outside Bordeaux.
The rest is history, and Masseto has long since secured a top position – a trophy in any wine collection.
2007 Masseto: Price development so far
On wine-searcher.com, the average asking prices for 2007 Masseto can be tracked back to its release in 2011. From 2011 to its most recent peak in 2023, the average asking price increased by 10.1% annually. Since then, the market has corrected – by the end of 2024, the asking price was approximately 15.6% below the peak. Today, the price has already rebounded and is only about 5% below peak.
Your price is €750*. For comparison, the 1997 Masseto – slightly behind 2007 in quality – currently costs a minimum of €1,090* per bottle.
Liv-Ex – Why You Should Care About The Bid:Offer Ratio
At this point, a brief recap on Liv-ex is necessary.
Liv-ex is the world’s largest marketplace for fine wine. Like a stock exchange, but dedicated to wine, it provides professional traders with a platform to buy and sell the finest wines in the world. Here, sellers list a wine at a specific asking price (offer), while buyers place their purchase bids (bid). When the two meet, a trade occurs.
Since only professionals can operate on the platform, monitoring bid and offer levels is essential for our analysts, who use this information to interpret market sentiment. When buyers are cautious or concerned, bid levels tend to move away from offers. Conversely, when confidence in the market grows, bids move closer to offers. This is why Liv-ex’s bid:offer ratio – which compares the strength of buying interest to selling interest – is so important to us, and it should matter to you as well.
Over the past few years, geopolitical and macroeconomic concerns have, as you might expect, been reflected in bids significantly below offers, leading to corresponding price corrections. However, since July 2025, the situation has started to shift. Buyer bids have been rising, and as a result, from September 2025 the Liv-ex 100 Index (which tracks the 100 most sought-after fine wines on the secondary market) recorded gains for six consecutive months, and is now +3.9%.
As of today, in just one month, the bid:offer ratio of the Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index has increased from 0.87 to 1.1, the highest level since October 2022. The Italy 100 Index shows similar trends: its bid:offer ratio has risen from 0.70 to 0.78 over the past year.
In simple terms? This is a very positive signal for a recovering market.
RareWine Invest’s Opinion
Is the market turning now? We wish we could guarantee yes – but Liv-ex is tracking continued positive trends, which is encouraging. And even if patience is still required, we can reasonably expect the price of 2007 Masseto to follow its comparable predecessors.
Regardless, this is an opportunity to secure a position in a top-tier world wine. We offer both standard and magnum formats of 2007 Masseto, and we do not recommend one over the other – only that you act quickly, as availability is very limited.
