Leroy or DRC? Investing in two Burgundy mastodons
The holy grail + wine crafted by the Queen of Burgundy herself
Leroy and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti are not wines we often offer broadly for investment. Quantities are simply too small, demand too intense and access far too limited. Here are two opportunities under the headline Cellar’s Finest — and rightly so. Even if they represent opposite ends of the two giants’ spectrum, they also represent two very different paths into exclusivity.
The pricing is interesting. The timing even more so. The world’s rarest and most iconic producers are once again showing signs of strength among long-term collectors and investors.

After the correction: The rarest wines back in focus
The fine wine market entered 2026 on a far more stable foundation than just a year ago. According to a recent Forbes analysis, several indicators now suggest that demand for the world’s most sought-after wines is once again increasing among long-term collectors and investors.
What makes the current market particularly interesting:
-
Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 rose for six consecutive months leading into spring 2026
-
Top Burgundy and rarer mature wines are once again showing signs of strength
-
Several iconic wines are still trading well below their 2022/2023 peaks
-
Supply from the greatest producers remains extremely limited
-
Burgundy’s tiny 2024 harvest could become a long-term catalyst for the region
The market is not back in euphoria. But periods like these are often when the rarest bottles once again begin attracting the attention of buyers thinking furthest ahead.
Domaine Leroy | 2015 Nuits-Saint-Georges Rouge
For decades, Lalou Bize-Leroy has stood as an almost mythical figure in Burgundy — uncompromising, obsessively quality-driven and gifted with a level of terroir intuition very few producers have ever approached. The result is wines that are not merely traded as collectibles, but wines that continuously redefine what Burgundy can be. For that reason, she long ago earned the title as Burgundy’s queen.
Yields are microscopic. Demand global. And the market surrounding Leroy operates almost in a world of its own — driven by a rare combination of cult status, genuine scarcity and an almost absurd level of consistency. But perhaps even more important to keep in mind: at 93 years old, one cannot ignore the reality that one day she may finally put down the pruning shears. And when that day comes, the world will have seen the last bottles crafted by the Queen’s own hand.
Because yields were exceptionally small in 2015, Leroy chose to bottle a single Nuits-Saint-Georges Rouge from Aux Allots, Aux Lavières and Bas de Combe.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti | 2017 Romanée-Conti
If Domaine Leroy represents Burgundy’s uncompromising and almost rebellious side, then Domaine de la Romanée-Conti stands as the historic centre against which the rest of the region is constantly measured.
For generations, DRC has been the ultimate benchmark for pinot noir at the highest possible level. Not merely because of its legendary vineyards, but because the domaine has maintained an almost extreme consistency in its pursuit of terroir, balance and precision — even as global demand around the wines has exploded.
And despite a portfolio filled with legendary wines such as the monopoly La Tâche, Montrachet and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, everything still pales beside the domaine’s ultimate flagship: Romanée-Conti itself. A crown jewel, the holy grail of wine and perhaps the ultimate validation of a Burgundy collection.

RareWine Invest’s opinion
Leroy and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti exist in a tier of Burgundy where traditional parameters such as quality and ratings no longer stand alone. These are wines pursued by global collectors with an intensity experienced by very few other producers — driven by extreme scarcity, historical significance and a position in the market that is effectively without equal. Hence the extraordinary pricing.
We almost never offer Leroy and DRC broadly for investment, simply because access is normally too limited. Here, we have the opportunity to do so — while pricing still remains meaningfully below the peaks of 2022 and 2023.
